Who benefits from Duty-Free and the guidelines for shopping: You must be over 15, residing overseas, and staying in Europe for less than 6 months. At the time of purchase, you must be able, as a foreigner, to prove your identity with a passport or legal identity document. These benefits do not apply to embassy staff and comparable categories, students, trainees and immigrant workers residing in Europe. Good to know: "ON SALE" in French = Solde / in Spanish = Salud!
What goods can you buy: Those you would normally pack in your suitcase, except for the forbidden food items, either solid or liquid, Tobacco, Medicine, any fire arms other than hunting guns, shot guns and shooting range rifles, gold and unset gems, works of art, collectors items and antiques, Private mean soft transport (cars, boat, planes) and the corresponding spares and equipment, except when they belong in the sports category (sailing or surfboards, bicycles...).
If you are not a resident in the E.E.C. As of January1, 1993, the custom and fiscal formalities are waived, so you can purchase for your private use in any ECC countries almost anything, without limitation of quantity or value, the same as any other citizen leaving this country.
If you are a resident in any other country: Ask our merchant for the duty free forms. Pink Invoice: 2 pink pages, 1 green page.• Upon leaving French or Spanish territory, show your goods and the 3 pages to the French exit customs, together with the stamped envelope provided by the shop. But if you leave the country by train, have your 3 pages validated by the customs on board the train. French & Spanish customs will keep both pink pages and will give you the validated green page. Keep the green page in case of contestation. Having checked, the French & Spanish customs will send a yellow or pink page to the shop, which will, according to your instructions (home address, private bank account number and so on), refund you the amount appearing on space B/3 of the invoice. In certain cases, refunds can be obtained at the time of purchase. However, this does not exempt you from the above formalities. How much must you purchase to claim Duty-Free? Your purchases, inclusive of tax, from any single store, must amount to at least 180€ regardless of the amount of items, before you can receive a 13 to 19.6 percent VAT refund (amount depends on classification of goods).
